🌿 Moby Dick Feminised Seeds — The High-Yielding Sativa Powerhouse

Moby Dick feminised seeds represent one of the most productive and potent sativa-dominant hybrids available to Australian growers. Created by Spanish breeder Dinafem Seeds, this legendary cross of Haze × White Widow delivers exceptional yields (up to 700g/m² indoors, 750g per plant outdoors), powerful cerebral effects (21-27% THC), and notable THCV content that creates unique energizing and appetite-suppressing characteristics.

Why Moby Dick is valued by experienced Australian growers: This strain suits growers who have vertical space, patience for 9-10 week flowering, and experience managing tall sativa-dominant plants. The massive yield potential justifies the longer flowering period and height management requirements. Queensland and Northern NSW outdoor growers with long warm autumns achieve exceptional results—plants with extended veg periods can produce 500-750g each. Indoor growers with tall tents (200cm+) or dedicated grow rooms maximize the substantial vertical growth.

The breeding story: Named after Herman Melville's literary leviathan, Moby Dick earns its title through both legendary potency and monstrous size. Dinafem Seeds created this strain by crossing two elite parent genetics:

  • Haze: Classic sativa providing soaring cerebral effects, energizing mental clarity, extended duration, and the characteristic haze aroma. Haze genetics contribute the tall structure, longer flowering period, and uplifting psychoactive character.
  • White Widow: Legendary hybrid (Brazilian sativa × South Indian indica) contributing heavy resin production, structural stability, faster flowering than pure haze, and increased yield potential. White Widow genetics balance the pure sativa tendencies with enough indica influence to create manageable flowering times.

The resulting hybrid captured the best traits of both parents: Haze's soaring cerebral effects and classic terpene profile combined with White Widow's exceptional resin production and impressive yields. The 60% sativa / 40% indica balance creates energizing effects with enough physical relaxation to ground the experience.

What makes Moby Dick unique — THCV content: Unlike most modern hybrids which contain negligible THCV, Moby Dick produces notable levels of this rare cannabinoid (typically 0.3-0.8%, which is significant). THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) creates distinct effects:

  • Appetite suppression (opposite of typical THC "munchies")
  • Increased energy and mental clarity
  • Faster onset and shorter duration than THC alone
  • Potential blood sugar regulation benefits
  • Enhanced focus and productivity

This THCV content makes Moby Dick particularly valuable for users seeking daytime functionality, weight management support, or sustained energy without sedation.

What you get: Tall, vigorous plants with classic sativa structure—long internodal spacing, thinner leaves, and substantial stretch (100-200% height increase in early flower). The buds are dense and heavily coated in trichomes despite the sativa genetics, thanks to White Widow influence. Expect lime-green flowers with abundant orange pistils and a crystalline resin coating that justifies the strain's reputation for potency.

Yield potential: Up to 700g/m² indoors with proper height management and lighting, up to 750g per plant outdoors with extended veg time (10-14 weeks) and unlimited vertical space. These are exceptional yields that rival or exceed most photoperiod strains. The combination of sativa vigor, White Widow resin production, and long flowering period allows substantial bud development.

Effects profile: Immediate cerebral rush with euphoria, creativity, and mental clarity. The onset is fast and noticeable—classic sativa stimulation without anxiety or paranoia (in appropriate doses). Energy increases, focus sharpens, and social engagement becomes effortless. As the experience develops, gentle physical relaxation grounds the mental effects without sedation. The THCV content creates a "cleaner" high with enhanced clarity and shorter overall duration (2-3 hours vs 3-4 hours for pure THC strains). Perfect for daytime creativity, social situations, outdoor activities, or productive tasks requiring sustained focus.

❤️ What Makes Moby Dick Worth Growing

The yields are genuinely massive. At 700g/m² indoors and up to 750g per plant outdoors, Moby Dick produces more than most photoperiod strains. To put this in perspective: average indoor yields are 400-500g/m², average outdoor yields are 200-400g per plant. Moby Dick nearly doubles these benchmarks when grown properly. That productivity justifies the longer flowering time and height management requirements.

The THCV content creates unique effects. Most cannabis strains contain negligible THCV (<0.1%). Moby Dick's 0.3-0.8% THCV content produces noticeably different effects: appetite suppression instead of munchies, increased energy and clarity, faster onset, and enhanced focus. For users seeking functional daytime cannabis that doesn't induce sedation or excessive appetite, this THCV content is valuable. Medical users managing weight, blood sugar, or ADHD find the THCV particularly beneficial.

The potency is substantial and balanced. At 21-27% THC, Moby Dick delivers powerful effects without the overwhelming intensity of pure sativa landrace strains. The White Widow genetics provide enough indica influence to create manageable, enjoyable experiences rather than racy anxiety. Experienced users get satisfying potency, newer users (with appropriate dosing) can still enjoy the effects without panic.

The effects are perfect for productivity. Unlike indica-dominant strains that induce relaxation and sedation, or pure sativas that can create scattered racy thoughts, Moby Dick provides focused, directed energy. The cerebral stimulation enhances creativity, problem-solving, conversation, and physical activities. Many users report it as their "daytime work strain" for tasks requiring sustained mental engagement without fatigue.

The flowering time is reasonable for a sativa. Pure Haze strains can take 12-16 weeks to flower. Moby Dick finishes in 9-10 weeks—faster than pure sativas but longer than fast-flowering indicas. This compressed timeline (thanks to White Widow genetics) makes sativa effects accessible without the extreme patience required for landrace genetics.

The terpene profile is complex and appealing. The dominant terpinolene creates a distinctive citrus-pine-haze aroma that's instantly recognizable. Combined with myrcene (earthy depth), ocimene (sweet floral), and pinene (fresh pine), the flavour profile is layered and sophisticated. Not one-dimensional or generic—this is classic cannabis flavour that appeals to connoisseurs.

It's proven genetics with elite parentage. Haze and White Widow are both legendary strains that have won numerous Cannabis Cup awards and spawned countless successful crosses. Moby Dick combines two proven winners, which validates the genetic stability and desirability. You're not growing an untested novelty—you're working with elite breeding stock.

🌿 Moby Dick Effects & Experience

Onset (5-15 minutes): The effects hit quickly and noticeably. Cerebral stimulation arrives first—a distinct mental "lift" that clears fog and sharpens perception. Mood elevates immediately, often accompanied by euphoria and sudden optimism. Energy increases noticeably. Thoughts become more fluid and creative. Social inhibitions decrease. The fast onset is partially attributed to THCV content, which activates more rapidly than THC alone. This initial phase feels clean, bright, and motivating—classic sativa stimulation without jittery anxiety.

Peak (15-45 minutes): Mental clarity and focus reach maximum intensity. This is the window for productive work, creative projects, engaging conversations, or physical activities. Concentration improves—you can sustain attention on complex tasks without mental wandering. Creativity flows easily—connections between ideas become apparent, problem-solving feels intuitive. Social engagement is effortless and enjoyable. Physical energy is present but controlled—you feel capable of activity without restlessness. The experience is stimulating but directed, not scattered or overwhelming.

Mid-phase (45-90 minutes): The intensity stabilizes into steady, functional energy. Mental stimulation remains but becomes less pronounced. You're still engaged and focused, just less intensely than the peak. Physical relaxation begins developing gradually—muscle tension releases, body comfort increases, but without sedation. The sativa-dominant effects remain primary, but the indica genetics start expressing through gentle physical ease. This is still productive time—good for sustained work, outdoor activities, social situations, or creative pursuits.

Late-phase (90-150 minutes): Energy begins tapering. Mental stimulation decreases but mood remains elevated and positive. Physical relaxation is now noticeable—you're comfortable and calm, though still functional if needed. Appetite may increase slightly during this window, though less dramatically than pure THC strains (the THCV moderates the "munchies"). This is good for winding down from activity, enjoying passive entertainment, or transitioning to other tasks. Not sedating, just gentler and more relaxed than earlier phases.

Duration: 2-3 hours total for most users. The THCV content creates a slightly shorter, "cleaner" experience compared to pure THC strains (which typically last 3-4 hours). The comedown is smooth and gentle—no harsh crash, irritability, or fatigue. Users typically return to baseline feeling positive and refreshed rather than depleted.

Potency warning: 21-27% THC plus THCV is serious potency. Even experienced users should start conservatively—one or two hits to assess response before consuming more. The fast onset means effects arrive quickly; it's easy to overconsume before realizing you're already high. Newer users should treat this strain with respect and start with minimal doses. The energizing effects can become anxiety-inducing at excessive doses.

Flavour profile: Bright citrus (lemon, orange) on the inhale with sharp pine and classic haze earthiness. The exhale carries sweet vanilla undertones and subtle eucalyptus notes—distinctive and memorable. The terpinolene dominance creates the characteristic haze flavour that cannabis connoisseurs recognize immediately. Smooth smoke when properly cured, though the sativa genetics can create slightly harsher smoke than indica strains. The complex terpene blend (terpinolene, myrcene, ocimene, pinene) produces layered, evolving flavours throughout the experience.

Common uses (anecdotal): Daytime productivity and focus-heavy work, creative projects (writing, art, music production), social situations and conversations, outdoor activities (hiking, surfing, exercise), brainstorming and problem-solving, combating fatigue and depression, appetite regulation and weight management (THCV), ADHD symptom management (focus and energy), mild pain relief without sedation. The functional, energizing effects make it particularly valuable for users who need cannabis benefits during active hours rather than sedation for rest.

Best consumption timing: Morning through early evening. Moby Dick is decidedly a daytime strain—the energizing effects make sleep difficult if consumed late at night. Many users consume in morning for all-day productivity, or early afternoon for creative evening activities. Not recommended within 4-5 hours of intended sleep time.

Dosing considerations: The THCV content means lower doses provide functional energy and focus, while higher doses can create intensity that borders on anxiety for sensitive users. Start low—1-2 hits for effect assessment. The fast onset means you'll know within 10-15 minutes if you need more. It's better to add another small dose than to overconsume initially and spend hours uncomfortable.

🌱 Growing Moby Dick Feminised Seeds — Complete Guide

Experience level required: Intermediate to advanced. Moby Dick is not beginner-friendly. The tall sativa structure requires active height management, the 9-10 week flowering demands patience, and the substantial stretch in early flower can overwhelm unprepared growers. If you've successfully grown 3-4 strains previously and have experience with training techniques, you'll handle Moby Dick. Complete beginners should start with compact indica strains.

Best growing environments: Indoor growing with tall tents (200cm+ height) or dedicated rooms with vertical space. Outdoor growing in warm climates with long growing seasons (Queensland, Northern NSW). The sativa genetics need space to express their growth potential. Cramped spaces create problems—you'll fight height issues constantly.

Flowering time: 9-10 weeks from start of 12/12 light cycle. Most phenotypes finish around 9-9.5 weeks. Total grow time depends on veg period—typically 17-22 weeks from seed to harvest for indoor grows (8-12 weeks veg + 9-10 weeks flower). Outdoor grows with extended veg can run 24-28 weeks total.

Height and stretch characteristics: This is critical to understand. Moby Dick exhibits extreme sativa stretch—expect 100-200% height increase in the first 3 weeks of flower. Plants flipped at 50cm can finish at 150-200cm. Plants flipped at 80cm can exceed 250cm. The vigorous growth is impressive but can overwhelm indoor spaces quickly. Outdoor plants with 12-14 week veg periods can reach 250-350cm. Height management is not optional—you must actively control vertical growth.

Training strategies (essential for indoor):

Topping (mandatory indoors): Top multiple times during veg to control height and create bushier structure. First topping at 4th-5th node, second topping at 3rd-4th node on the resulting branches. Some growers top 3-4 times to create 8-16 main colas and drastically reduce vertical growth. The vigorous sativa genetics recover from topping in 3-5 days with minimal slowdown.

LST (Low-Stress Training): Tie down branches during veg and early flower to create horizontal growth. Essential for indoor growing. Start LST by week 3-4 of veg and continue adjusting throughout the stretch phase. The flexible branches bend easily without snapping. Constant repositioning required in early flower as plants grow rapidly.

SCROG (Screen of Green): Highly recommended for indoor Moby Dick. The vigorous lateral growth fills screen spaces efficiently. Use 10-15cm squares. Veg until screen is 50-60% full (not 70% like other strains—Moby Dick will overfill). Flip to flower when screen is half full and weave branches during the extensive stretch phase. SCROG provides excellent height control and maximizes yield per square meter.

Supercropping: Advanced technique for emergency height control. If plants stretch more than expected in early flower, supercropping (bending and slightly crushing stems to create 90-degree angles) can save the grow. Moby Dick's thick stems handle supercropping well. Creates stress that actually increases resin production in many cases.

Defoliation: Moderate to heavy defoliation beneficial. The vigorous foliage production can block light penetration to lower bud sites. Remove blocking fan leaves in early flower (week 1-2) and again at week 4-5. Don't be afraid to remove 30-40% of fan leaves—Moby Dick regrows foliage quickly and benefits from improved light penetration and airflow.

Feeding strategy:

Moby Dick is a heavy feeder, especially during the extended flowering period. The sativa genetics and massive production require sustained nutrition.

Vegetative phase:

  • Start at 1/2 recommended strength for first 2 weeks
  • Increase to full strength by week 3
  • Can push to 1.2-1.5x recommended strength by mid-veg if plants show vigorous growth
  • EC range: 1.8-2.2 in hydro/coco systems (higher than most strains)
  • Higher nitrogen for the extended vegetative growth
  • CalMag essential in coco or RO water systems—sativas show deficiencies quickly

Early flower (weeks 1-3—the stretch phase):

  • Maintain moderate nitrogen to support explosive vertical growth
  • Begin transitioning to bloom nutrients—increase phosphorus and potassium
  • EC range: 2.0-2.4
  • This is peak growth phase—plants need substantial nutrition
  • Don't cut nitrogen too early or you'll stunt the stretch (which sounds good but reduces yield)

Mid-late flower (weeks 4-10):

  • Peak feeding period for bud development
  • EC range: 2.2-2.6 (Moby Dick can handle higher EC than most strains)
  • Reduce nitrogen, maximize phosphorus and potassium
  • PK boosters (0-13-14 or similar) work excellently with Moby Dick
  • Increase sulfur and magnesium to support terpene and resin production
  • Monitor for deficiencies (yellowing leaves)—underfeed is more common than burn with this strain

Final flush (last 10-14 days):

  • Plain pH-adjusted water only
  • Critical for the citrus-haze flavour profile—unflushed Moby Dick tastes harsh and chemical
  • Leaves will yellow substantially—this is desired and normal
  • Start flush when trichomes are 60-70% cloudy

Climate requirements:

Temperature:

  • Vegetative: 22-28°C (lights on), 18-22°C (lights off)—sativas tolerate heat better
  • Flowering: 22-26°C (lights on), 18-20°C (lights off)
  • Can handle brief spikes to 32°C without severe stress
  • Cooler temps (18-22°C) in late flower enhance terpene preservation

Humidity:

  • Vegetative: 50-65% RH
  • Early flower: 45-55% RH
  • Mid flower: 40-50% RH
  • Late flower: 35-45% RH
  • Sativa structure has better airflow than dense indica, but still maintain reasonable humidity

Airflow and ventilation:

  • Strong air circulation essential—use multiple oscillating fans
  • The tall structure creates microclimates—ensure air movement top to bottom
  • Extract fan should handle tent volume efficiently
  • Good airflow prevents mould and strengthens stems to support heavy buds

Light intensity:

  • High light requirements—sativa genetics thrive under intense lighting
  • PPFD targets: 500-700 µmol/m²/s veg, 800-1200 µmol/m²/s flower
  • Can handle extreme light intensity (1200+ PPFD) with CO2 supplementation
  • More light = more yield with Moby Dick (assuming nutrients and environment support it)
  • Budget lighting will work but limits yield potential—invest in quality LEDs or HPS for best results

Common issues and solutions:

Excessive stretch: The primary challenge. Solutions: top aggressively (3-4 times during veg), flip to flower early (when plants are only 30-40cm), use SCROG to control height, consider PGRs like kelp extract to strengthen stems without chemicals, supercrop if plants exceed space during flower.

Nutrient deficiencies: Sativas show deficiencies faster than indicas. Watch for yellowing leaves, interveinal chlorosis (magnesium deficiency), or brown spots (calcium deficiency). Moby Dick is a heavy feeder—don't be conservative with nutrients.

Long flowering patience: 9-10 weeks feels long when you're used to 7-8 week indicas. Resist the urge to harvest early—the last 2 weeks are when trichome density really explodes and terpenes lock in. Premature harvest significantly reduces both yield and quality.

Foliage density: The vigorous leaf production can block light and trap humidity. Defoliate more aggressively than you would with indicas. Moby Dick handles heavy defoliation well and benefits from improved light penetration.

🏠 Indoor Growing (Australia)

Flowering time: 9-10 weeks under 12/12 light cycle

Yield: 600-700g/m² under 600W+ LED or 600-1000W HPS with SCROG and proper feeding

Recommended veg period: 6-8 weeks for standard growing, 4-5 weeks for SCROG (shorter veg because stretch will fill screen). Experienced growers can push to 10-12 weeks veg for maximum yields if height allows.

Height management critical: Flip to 12/12 when plants are only 30-40cm tall if working with standard 200cm tents. The 100-200% stretch will push them to 90-160cm final height. Taller tents (240cm+) allow flipping at 50-60cm. Always account for light distance from canopy (30-45cm for LED, 45-60cm for HPS).

Cycles per year: With 9-10 week flower and 6-8 week veg, expect 3 complete cycles annually. This is standard for longer-flowering photoperiods. The massive yields per cycle compensate for fewer annual harvests.

Container size: 20-30L fabric pots for soil, 15-25L for coco/hydro. The vigorous sativa roots need space. Bigger pots support the extended veg and heavy feeding requirements. Fabric pots essential for preventing root binding.

Training recommendation: SCROG produces best indoor results. Top 2-3 times during veg, train under screen, flip when 50-60% full. The lateral growth fills spaces efficiently. Alternative: heavy LST with multiple tie-downs throughout veg and stretch.

Lighting requirements: Minimum 600W for 1m². Moby Dick responds dramatically to light intensity—more light produces noticeably more yield. Quantum board LEDs (600-1000W) or quality HPS (600-1000W) recommended. Budget lighting limits the genetic potential.

Popular with Australian indoor growers in: Melbourne (climate control allows year-round), Sydney (tall apartments/rooms accommodate height), Brisbane (humidity manageable with dehumidifier), Perth (dry climate suits sativa growing). Less common in small urban apartments due to height requirements.

🌿 Outdoor Growing (Southern Hemisphere / Australia)

Harvest windows by region:

  • Queensland / Northern NSW: Early to mid-April (warm autumn allows full maturation)
  • Central NSW / ACT: Mid to late April
  • Victoria / SA: Late April to early May (watch weather closely—longer flower risks rain)
  • Tasmania: Challenging—early May harvest risks cold and rain. Greenhouse recommended.
  • Western Australia: Mid-April (Perth's Mediterranean climate ideal)

Yield: 500-750g per plant in-ground or very large containers (150L+) with 12-14 week veg. Smaller outdoor setups (50-100L containers, shorter veg) produce 300-500g per plant.

Planting timing: Plant in late October to early November after frost risk passes. The extended veg period (12-14 weeks outdoor) allows plants to reach substantial size before natural flowering triggers in late January/early February as daylight drops below 14 hours.

Site selection:

  • Full sun absolutely essential—10+ hours direct sunlight ideal
  • Protection from strong winds (plants get very tall and can snap in severe wind)
  • Excellent drainage—sativas dislike wet feet
  • Privacy considerations—plants easily exceed 200cm height, often reaching 250-300cm
  • Southern exposure in Australia gets maximum sun (opposite hemisphere from Northern growing guides)

Climate suitability by state:

  • Queensland: Excellent. Long warm autumn, abundant sunshine. Main challenge is humidity—ensure good plant spacing and airflow.
  • Northern NSW: Excellent. Warm coastal climate ideal. Inland areas even better (lower humidity).
  • Central NSW / ACT: Very good. Warm summers, manageable autumn. The 9-10 week flower usually finishes before heavy rains.
  • Victoria / SA: Moderate. April weather unpredictable. The longer flowering means harvest happens late—rain and cool temps are risks. Greenhouse or covered protection recommended.
  • Tasmania: Difficult. Short season and cool April/May temps challenge long-flowering sativas. Indoor or greenhouse strongly recommended over outdoor.
  • Western Australia: Excellent. Perth's Mediterranean climate with dry autumns perfect for sativa cultivation.

Container vs in-ground:

  • In-ground: Maximum size potential (250-350cm possible with long veg). Unrestricted roots support massive plants and maximum yields (600-750g). Can't move if weather threatens. Soil quality dependent.
  • Very large containers (150-200L): Nearly matches in-ground performance. Portable with significant effort. Controlled soil quality. Easier nutrient management. Yields 500-700g. Best compromise for most growers.
  • Medium containers (80-120L): Manageable plant size (180-220cm), portable, good yields (350-500g). Requires frequent watering in summer. Good for growers with space or mobility constraints.

Weather management:

  • Autumn rains: Major concern for Moby Dick's late harvest. Monitor forecasts religiously in April. If heavy prolonged rain threatens in late April, consider emergency early harvest (even if not quite ready) rather than risking bud rot.
  • Wind: Tall sativa plants are vulnerable to wind damage. Stake main stem securely by mid-flower. Use bamboo stakes or metal poles for support. Major branches may need individual staking if buds get heavy.
  • Late season cold: Temps below 12°C in late April/early May stress plants and slow final ripening. Cover plants overnight if cold snaps forecasted. Fleece or plastic sheeting works for temporary protection.

Outdoor training: Top 2-3 times during veg to create busher structure and control height. LST helpful for opening canopy to sunlight. Outdoor sativas naturally grow tall—focus on creating multiple main colas rather than fighting the vertical tendency. Heavy staking essential by mid-flower.

Pest management: Caterpillars are primary concern in Australian late summer/autumn. Inspect weekly—sativa flowers have better airflow than dense indica so spotting pests is easier. BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) spray in early flower for prevention. Spider mites less common outdoors but possible. Remove any pest-damaged material immediately.

🧠 Jason's Tip — Growing Moby Dick

The stretch is extreme. I can't emphasize this enough. Every grower I know who's run Moby Dick for the first time has underestimated the stretch and ended up with plants growing into lights. Flip to 12/12 when plants are HALF the final height you can accommodate. If your tent is 200cm and you need 40cm for lights, flip when plants are 60-80cm maximum, not 100cm.

Top it aggressively. I top Moby Dick 3 times during veg—once at 5th node, then the resulting branches at 3rd node, then again. This creates 8-16 main colas and drastically reduces vertical growth. Yes, it adds a week to veg time. It's worth it to avoid height disasters.

Feed it heavily. Moby Dick is one of the hungriest strains I've grown. I run 2.4-2.6 EC in coco during mid-late flower without burn. If you're seeing yellowing leaves in week 5-6 of flower, you're underfeeding. Bump up base nutrients and add PK booster. This strain needs fuel for those massive yields.

Be patient with harvest. The extra week matters massively with Moby Dick. I used to harvest at 9 weeks and wonder why yields were "only" 550g/m². Now I wait until week 10 when trichomes are properly cloudy and I'm pulling 650-700g/m². That last week adds 15-20% to final weight.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions — Moby Dick Feminised Seeds

🌿 What makes Moby Dick unique?
Moby Dick combines exceptional yields (up to 700g/m² indoors, 750g outdoor) with notable THCV content (0.3-0.8%) that creates unique effects: appetite suppression instead of munchies, increased energy and clarity, faster onset, and enhanced focus. Most strains contain negligible THCV (<0.1%), making Moby Dick's THCV levels genuinely distinctive. The Haze × White Widow genetics also produce classic sativa effects with enough indica influence to remain functional rather than racy.

⚡ How does THCV affect the experience?
THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) creates several distinct effects: Appetite suppression (opposite of typical THC "munchies"), increased energy and mental clarity (sharper than THC alone), faster onset (effects arrive in 5-15 minutes vs 15-30 for pure THC), shorter duration (2-3 hours vs 3-4 hours), enhanced focus (less mental scatter than pure sativas), and potential blood sugar regulation benefits. The combination of THC + THCV creates what users describe as a "cleaner" high with sustained productivity.

🌱 Is this strain beginner-friendly?
No. Moby Dick requires intermediate to advanced experience. The challenges: Extreme stretch (100-200% in early flower) requires aggressive height management, tall growth (200cm+ easily) needs vertical space most beginners don't have, 9-10 week flowering demands patience, heavy feeding requirements need experience with nutrient management. If you've successfully grown 3-4 strains and have tall tents or outdoor space, you'll handle it. Complete beginners should start with compact indica strains.

⏱ How long does flowering actually take?
9-10 weeks from start of 12/12 light cycle. Most phenotypes finish around 9-9.5 weeks. Total grow time: 17-22 weeks from seed to harvest indoors (8-12 weeks veg + 9-10 weeks flower). Outdoor grows with extended veg: 24-28 weeks total. This is longer than fast-flowering indicas (7-8 weeks) but faster than pure Haze strains (12-16 weeks).

🏠 Can I grow Moby Dick in a standard tent?
Possible but challenging. Standard 200cm tents require aggressive training and early flip to 12/12. You must flip when plants are only 30-40cm tall to account for 100-200% stretch. SCROG is almost mandatory. Taller tents (220-240cm) make life much easier. Dedicated grow rooms with unlimited height are ideal. Short tents (150-180cm) are not suitable for Moby Dick—choose different genetics.

🌞 What about outdoor growing in Australia?
Excellent in warm states with long autumns. Queensland and Northern NSW are ideal—long growing season, warm April weather. Central NSW and Perth work very well. Victoria and SA are moderate—the late April/early May harvest timing risks rain and cold. Tasmania is challenging—short season and cool late autumn. The 9-10 week flowering means harvest happens later than fast-flowering strains (late April vs late March).

📏 How tall does it actually get?
Very tall. Indoor plants flipped at 40cm finish 120-160cm. Flipped at 60cm they can reach 180-220cm. Outdoor plants with 12-14 week veg easily reach 250-300cm, sometimes exceeding 350cm in-ground with unlimited veg. The sativa genetics create strong vertical growth—this is not a compact strain. Plan accordingly.

🌾 What yields can I realistically expect?
Indoor: 600-700g/m² under 600W+ lighting with SCROG and proper feeding. Individual plant yields: 150-250g each depending on veg time and training.
Outdoor: 500-750g per plant in-ground or very large containers (150L+) with extended veg. Medium containers (80-120L): 300-500g per plant.
These are exceptional yields that justify the longer flowering time and height management challenges.

🍊 What does it taste and smell like?
Bright citrus (lemon, orange) and sharp pine dominate the inhale, with classic haze earthiness. The exhale carries sweet vanilla and subtle eucalyptus notes. The aroma during growing is intense—strong citrus-pine-haze smell from week 5 onwards. Carbon filtration is mandatory indoors. The terpinolene-dominant profile creates the distinctive haze character that connoisseurs recognize immediately. Complex, layered, sophisticated flavour—not one-dimensional.

💪 How potent is it compared to modern strains?
Very potent. At 21-27% THC plus THCV, Moby Dick matches or exceeds most modern hybrids (which typically test 22-28% THC). The THCV adds functional clarity that pure-THC strains don't provide. The effects feel "cleaner" and more directed than equally potent indica strains. For experienced users seeking strong but functional effects, Moby Dick delivers.

🌡️ What are ideal growing conditions?
Temperature: 22-28°C veg (day), 22-26°C flower (day), 18-20°C nights
Humidity: 50-65% veg, 45-55% early flower, 40-50% mid flower, 35-45% late flower
Light cycle: 18/6 during veg, 12/12 to initiate flowering
pH: 6.0-6.5 in soil, 5.5-6.0 in coco/hydro
EC/PPM: Heavy feeder—1.8-2.6 EC (900-1300 PPM) through flower
Light intensity: High—800-1200 PPFD in flower for maximum yields

🔝 Should I top it?
Yes, absolutely essential for indoor growing. Top 2-3 times during veg to control the extreme stretch and create bushier structure. First topping at 4th-5th node, second topping at 3rd-4th node on resulting branches. Some growers top 3-4 times to create 8-16 main colas. The vigorous sativa genetics recover from topping quickly (3-5 days) and the height control is worth the brief slowdown.

🌿 What training techniques work best?
SCROG (Screen of Green) is most effective indoors. Top 2-3 times during veg, train under screen, flip when 50-60% full (not 70%—the stretch will overfill it). LST and supercropping also work well for height control. Moderate to heavy defoliation beneficial due to vigorous foliage production. Don't be afraid to remove 30-40% of fan leaves—improves light penetration and airflow.

💧 How much should I feed it?
Moby Dick is a heavy feeder. Start at recommended strength and increase to 1.2-1.5x by mid-flower. EC range: 1.8-2.2 in veg, 2.2-2.6 in flower (higher than most strains). Underfeeding is more common than overfeeding—watch for yellowing leaves in mid-flower and increase nutrients if needed. PK boosters work excellently. Flush thoroughly final 10-14 days for clean citrus flavour.

⚠️ What are common problems?
Excessive stretch: The primary issue. Top aggressively, flip early, use SCROG, supercrop if needed.
Outgrowing tent height: Common mistake. Always flip when plants are half your available height or less.
Nutrient deficiencies: Sativas show deficiencies faster. Don't be conservative with feeding.
Impatience: Growers often harvest at 8-9 weeks. Wait until week 10 for maximum yield and potency.
Foliage blocking light: Defoliate more aggressively than you would with indicas.

🔄 Can I clone it?
Yes, clones very well. Moby Dick clones root in 7-14 days with standard techniques and maintain vigour through multiple generations. The vigorous sativa genetics make it excellent for mother plant setups. Clones allow you to skip germination and have known phenotype characteristics (height, potency, flavour) for planning grows.

🕐 When should I harvest?
Harvest when 70-80% of trichomes are cloudy with 20-30% amber for balanced effects (energy + relaxation). Use jeweler's loupe or microscope to check trichomes on buds (not sugar leaves). Harvesting earlier (mostly cloudy, minimal amber) provides more energetic sativa effects. Harvesting later (50%+ amber) increases physical relaxation. Don't harvest before week 9 minimum—premature harvest significantly reduces yield and potency.

🌈 Does it show purple colours?
Minimal purple expression. Moby Dick typically displays lime-green buds with abundant orange pistils. Some phenotypes show slight purple hues in calyxes if temps drop below 18°C in late flower, but vibrant purple colouration is not characteristic. The appeal is in the massive trichome coverage, exceptional yields, and energizing effects—not visual colour.

💰 Is it worth growing vs easier strains?
Depends on priorities and experience level:
Choose Moby Dick if: You have vertical space, experience with training, patience for 9-10 weeks, want maximum yields, value THCV effects, prefer energizing daytime strains.
Choose easier strains if: You're a beginner, have limited height, want fast harvests (7-8 weeks), prefer indica effects, need simple growing.
For experienced growers with proper setup, Moby Dick's exceptional yields and unique effects justify the challenges.

🌿 What effects can I expect?
Fast onset (5-15 minutes) with immediate cerebral stimulation, mood elevation, and energy increase. Peak mental clarity and focus (15-45 minutes)—excellent for creativity, productivity, conversation. Mid-phase steady energy with gentle physical relaxation developing (45-90 minutes). Late-phase tapering with calm comfort (90-150 minutes). Duration: 2-3 hours total. Best for daytime use, creative work, social situations, outdoor activities. Not suitable for sleep or sedation.

💊 What medical conditions is it used for?
Anecdotally reported as effective for: ADHD and focus disorders (the THCV enhances concentration), depression and fatigue (energizing mood elevation), appetite regulation and weight management (THCV suppresses appetite), blood sugar management (THCV may help regulate glucose), mild pain without sedation (functional pain relief), social anxiety (reduces inhibition without paranoia), creative blocks (enhances ideation and problem-solving). The functional, energizing effects make it particularly valuable for medical users who need symptom relief during active hours.

📅 How many harvests per year?
Indoor: 3 complete cycles annually with 9-10 week flower + 6-8 week veg.
Outdoor (warm climates): 1 cycle per year (plant October-November, harvest April-May).
The longer flowering reduces annual cycles compared to fast-flowering strains (which allow 4-5 indoor cycles), but the massive per-harvest yields compensate.

🏆 Why is it called Moby Dick?
Named after the legendary white whale from Herman Melville's classic novel "Moby-Dick." The name references both the strain's legendary status and monstrous size—like the whale, Moby Dick cannabis is known for being huge, powerful, and worthy of pursuit by dedicated enthusiasts. The white/silver trichome coating also evokes the "white whale" imagery.

🧬 What makes the genetics special?
The combination of two elite parent strains: Haze (classic sativa providing cerebral effects, extended duration, and trademark haze aroma) and White Widow (legendary hybrid contributing heavy resin, structural stability, and increased yields). This pairing creates a strain that's more productive and faster-flowering than pure Haze while maintaining the energizing sativa character. The THCV content is rare and valuable—most modern hybrids contain negligible THCV.

🌍 Where did it originate?
Bred by Dinafem Seeds in Spain. Dinafem (founded 2005, ceased operations 2020 after legal issues) was known for creating productive, potent strains. Moby Dick became one of their most celebrated releases and remains popular despite the breeder's closure. Multiple seed banks now carry Moby Dick genetics from preserved stock.

🔬 What's the terpene profile?
Dominated by terpinolene (floral, herbal, creates the distinctive haze character), supported by myrcene (earthy depth, enhances THC effects), ocimene (sweet floral, citrus notes), and pinene (fresh pine, mental clarity). Minor terpenes include caryophyllene (peppery, anti-inflammatory) and limonene (citrus, mood-elevating). Total terpene content typically 1.5-2.5%. The terpinolene dominance is relatively rare and creates the classic haze flavour profile.

💚 Is it good for hash or concentrates?
Excellent. The heavy White Widow resin production makes Moby Dick ideal for bubble hash, dry sift, rosin, or solvent-based extracts. Concentrate yields are very good (18-25% by weight typically). The complex terpene profile produces flavourful extracts with the characteristic citrus-haze notes. The THCV content carries through to concentrates, maintaining the unique energizing effects.

☀️ Does it handle heat well?
Yes, better than most strains. Sativa genetics evolved in tropical climates and tolerate heat well. Moby Dick can handle brief temps up to 32°C without severe stress. Still maintain reasonable temps (22-26°C ideal) but it won't collapse if you have occasional heat spikes. This heat tolerance makes it suitable for Australian summer growing where temps can spike.

🌊 Can I grow it hydroponically?
Yes, excellent in hydro systems. The heavy feeding requirements work well with hydroponic nutrient delivery. DWC (deep water culture), RDWC (recirculating DWC), and coco/perlite hempy buckets all work excellently. The vigorous sativa growth responds dramatically to hydro—expect even more aggressive stretch and higher yields than soil. Just ensure your vertical space can handle it.

🎨 Is it really good for creativity?
Yes, consistently reported as excellent for creative work. The cerebral stimulation enhances ideation, problem-solving, and novel connections between concepts. Many artists, writers, and musicians report Moby Dick as their preferred "work strain." The THCV contributes to mental clarity that keeps creative energy focused rather than scattered. Peak creativity window is typically 15-60 minutes after consumption.

🍽️ Does it really suppress appetite?
Yes, the THCV content creates noticeable appetite suppression—opposite of typical cannabis "munchies." Many users report decreased food cravings and easier portion control. This makes Moby Dick valuable for users managing weight or those who dislike the excessive hunger some strains produce. The appetite suppression is most noticeable in the first 90 minutes after consumption.

⚡ How does it compare to pure Haze?
Moby Dick is faster (9-10 weeks vs 12-16 weeks for pure Haze), more productive (higher yields), and slightly more manageable (White Widow genetics add structure). The effects are very similar—energizing cerebral stimulation with classic haze flavour—but Moby Dick is more practical for most growers. Pure Haze is for purists with unlimited patience and space; Moby Dick is for growers who want haze character with reasonable flowering times.

🛡️ Is it mould resistant?
Moderately resistant. The sativa structure has better airflow than dense indica buds, which helps prevent mould. However, the 9-10 week flowering means plants are exposed to late autumn weather (outdoor) or long flowering humidity (indoor). Maintain proper humidity control (under 45% in late flower) and good airflow. Not immune to mould, just more resistant than super-dense modern hybrids.
