🐋 Moby Dick Auto Feminised Seeds — High-Potency Sativa Auto with Unique THCV Content

Moby Dick Auto feminised seeds bring the legendary energizing effects and exceptional yields of the photoperiod Moby Dick strain to an autoflowering format. By crossing the classic Moby Dick (Haze × White Widow) with ruderalis genetics, breeders created a strain that delivers powerful cerebral stimulation (20-25% THC), notable THCV content for enhanced focus and appetite suppression, and impressive auto yields (up to 600g/m² indoors)—all in just 11-12 weeks from seed with no light schedule management required.

Why Moby Dick Auto suits experienced Australian growers: This is not a beginner autoflower. The tall sativa-leaning structure (100-140cm) requires more vertical space than typical compact autos. The 11-12 week timeline is longer than standard autos (which finish in 9-11 weeks). However, for growers with experience, height to work with, and patience for the extended timeline, Moby Dick Auto delivers photoperiod-quality effects and yields in an autoflowering package. Queensland and Northern NSW outdoor growers can run multiple cycles annually. Indoor growers with tall tents (180cm+) maximize the vertical growth potential.

The breeding story: The photoperiod Moby Dick became legendary for combining Haze's soaring cerebral effects with White Widow's heavy resin production and exceptional yields. Named after Melville's white whale, the strain earned its reputation through monstrous size and legendary potency. The autoflowering version preserves those characteristics while adding speed and simplicity through ruderalis genetics.

What makes Moby Dick Auto unique — THCV content: Like its photoperiod parent, Moby Dick Auto produces moderate levels of THCV (typically 0.2-0.6%, which is significant for an auto). THCV creates distinct effects rarely found in autoflowering strains:

  • Appetite suppression instead of typical "munchies"
  • Increased energy and mental clarity
  • Faster onset of effects (5-15 minutes)
  • Enhanced focus and productivity
  • Shorter overall duration (2-3 hours vs 3-4 hours)
  • Potential blood sugar regulation benefits

This THCV content makes Moby Dick Auto particularly valuable for daytime functional use, creative work, weight management support, or users seeking energizing cannabis without sedation.

What you get: Tall autoflowers with classic sativa structure—longer internodal spacing, thinner leaves, and more vertical growth than typical compact autos. The buds are dense and heavily resinous despite the sativa genetics, thanks to White Widow influence. Expect lime-green flowers with abundant orange pistils and crystalline trichome coating. The aroma is unmistakable: citrus, pine, and classic haze earthiness.

Yield potential: Up to 600g/m² indoors under good lighting (18/6 or 20/4 schedule), 100-200g per plant outdoors depending on container size and sunlight. These are exceptional autoflower yields—Moby Dick Auto produces significantly more than standard autos (which typically yield 50-120g per plant) while maintaining the 11-12 week timeline.

Effects profile: Fast, noticeable cerebral rush with euphoria, creativity, and mental clarity. The onset is quick (5-15 minutes, partially due to THCV), and effects are distinctly energizing rather than sedating. Focus sharpens, mood elevates dramatically, social engagement becomes effortless, and creative thinking flows naturally. As the experience develops, gentle physical relaxation grounds the mental stimulation without inducing couch-lock. The 60% sativa / 40% indica balance creates functional, productive energy with enough body comfort to prevent jittery anxiety. Perfect for daytime creativity, social situations, outdoor activities, or focus-heavy tasks.

Comparison to photoperiod Moby Dick: The auto version maintains approximately 75-85% of the photoperiod's potency and character. You lose 2-5% THC (20-25% vs 21-27%), some yield potential (600g/m² vs 700g/m² indoors), and the ability to extend veg time. You gain speed (11-12 weeks total vs 17-22 weeks), simplicity (no light schedule management), and the ability to run multiple annual outdoor cycles in warm climates.

❤️ What Makes Auto Moby Dick Worth Growing

The THCV content creates genuinely unique effects. Most autoflowers contain negligible THCV (<0.1%). Moby Dick Auto's 0.2-0.6% THCV produces noticeably different effects: appetite suppression, enhanced mental clarity, increased energy, and improved focus. For users seeking functional daytime cannabis that doesn't induce sedation or excessive hunger, this autoflower stands out. Medical users managing ADHD, weight, or fatigue find the THCV particularly beneficial.

The yields are exceptional for an autoflower. At 600g/m² indoors and 100-200g per plant outdoors, Moby Dick Auto produces more than most autoflowers. To put this in perspective: standard autos yield 300-450g/m² indoors and 50-100g per plant outdoors. Moby Dick Auto approaches photoperiod-level production in an autoflowering timeline. That productivity justifies the slightly longer grow time (11-12 weeks vs 9-10 weeks for standard autos).

The effects are genuinely energizing and functional. Most high-potency autos lean indica-dominant and create relaxing or sedating effects. Moby Dick Auto delivers clean, focused energy that enhances productivity rather than diminishing it. The sativa-leaning genetics create mental stimulation perfect for creative work, physical activities, or social engagement. This is daytime cannabis in autoflowering form.

It's taller than typical autos but still manageable. At 100-140cm, Moby Dick Auto is tall for an autoflower but not extreme like photoperiod sativas (which can reach 200-300cm). The height fits standard tents (180-200cm) and doesn't require the aggressive training that photoperiod Moby Dick demands. You get sativa effects and structure without photoperiod complexity.

The timeline allows multiple outdoor cycles. In warm Australian climates (Queensland, Northern NSW), the 11-12 week seed-to-harvest timeline allows 3-4 complete outdoor cycles per year. Plant in October, harvest in December/January. Plant in January, harvest in March/April. Plant in March, harvest in May/June. This frequency is impossible with photoperiod strains (which allow only one annual outdoor cycle).

The terpene profile is complex and appealing. The terpinolene dominance creates classic haze aroma that cannabis connoisseurs recognize and value. Combined with myrcene (earthy depth), ocimene (sweet citrus), and pinene (fresh pine), the flavour is layered and sophisticated—not one-dimensional like some autos. The complex terpenes translate to smooth, enjoyable smoke.

No light schedule management required. Unlike photoperiod Moby Dick (which requires careful 18/6 veg then 12/12 flower timing), the auto version flowers based on age. Plant the seed, run 18/6 or 20/4 lighting from start to finish, and harvest 11-12 weeks later. This simplicity matters for outdoor growers who can't control daylight and indoor growers who want straightforward growing.

🌿 Auto Moby Dick Effects & Experience

Onset (5-15 minutes): Effects arrive quickly and noticeably—faster than most cannabis strains. The THCV content contributes to rapid onset. Cerebral stimulation hits first: mental fog clears immediately, perception sharpens, mood elevates dramatically. There's a distinct "lift" feeling—sudden optimism and energy that's hard to miss. Thoughts become more fluid and creative. The fast onset feels clean and bright—classic sativa stimulation without racy anxiety or mental scatter.

Peak (15-45 minutes): Mental clarity and focus reach maximum intensity. This is prime time for productive work, creative projects, engaging conversations, or physical activities. Concentration improves substantially—you can sustain attention on complex tasks without mental wandering. Creative connections flow naturally—problem-solving feels intuitive, ideas come easily, and artistic expression is enhanced. Social inhibitions decrease—conversation is effortless and enjoyable. Physical energy is present and directed—you feel capable and motivated for activity without restlessness. The experience is stimulating but controlled, focused but not rigid.

Mid-phase (45-90 minutes): Intensity stabilizes into steady, functional energy. Mental stimulation remains but becomes less pronounced than the peak. You're still engaged and focused, just more settled. Physical relaxation begins developing gradually—muscle tension releases, body comfort increases, but without sedation. The sativa effects remain primary, but the indica genetics start expressing through gentle physical ease. This is still highly productive time—good for sustained work, outdoor activities, creative pursuits, or social situations.

Late-phase (90-150 minutes): Energy begins tapering naturally. Mental stimulation decreases but mood remains elevated and positive. Physical relaxation is now noticeable—you're comfortable and calm, though still functional if needed. Appetite may increase slightly during this window, though less dramatically than pure THC strains (the THCV moderates the "munchies" effect). This is good for winding down from activity, enjoying passive entertainment, or transitioning to other tasks. Not sedating, just gentler and more relaxed than earlier phases.

Duration: 2-3 hours total for most users. The THCV content creates a slightly shorter, "cleaner" experience compared to pure THC autoflowers (which typically last 3-4 hours). The comedown is smooth and gentle—no harsh crash, irritability, or fatigue. Users typically return to baseline feeling positive and refreshed rather than depleted or groggy.

Potency consideration: At 20-25% THC plus THCV, Moby Dick Auto is high-potency for an autoflower. Even experienced users should start conservatively—one or two hits to assess response before consuming more. The fast onset means effects arrive quickly; it's easy to overconsume before realizing you're already high. Newer users should treat this strain with respect and start with minimal doses. The energizing effects can become anxiety-inducing at excessive doses for sensitive individuals.

Flavour profile: Bright citrus (lemon, orange) on the inhale with sharp pine and classic haze earthiness. The exhale carries sweet vanilla undertones and subtle herbal notes—distinctive and memorable. The terpinolene dominance creates the characteristic haze flavour that connoisseurs recognize immediately. Smooth smoke when properly cured, though the sativa genetics can create slightly more expansion in the lungs than indica strains. The complex terpene blend (terpinolene, myrcene, ocimene, pinene) produces layered, evolving flavours throughout the experience.

Common uses (anecdotal): Daytime productivity and focus-heavy work, creative projects (writing, art, music, brainstorming), social situations and conversations, outdoor activities (hiking, surfing, sports, exercise), combating fatigue and depression, appetite regulation and weight management (THCV), ADHD symptom management (focus and energy), mild pain relief without sedation, motivation for household tasks or errands. The functional, energizing effects make it valuable for users who need cannabis benefits during active hours rather than sedation for rest.

Best consumption timing: Morning through early evening. Moby Dick Auto is decidedly a daytime strain—the energizing effects make sleep difficult if consumed late at night. Many users consume in morning for all-day productivity, or early afternoon for creative evening activities. Not recommended within 4-5 hours of intended sleep time unless you're engaging in physical activity that will tire you out.

Dosing considerations: The THCV content means lower doses provide functional energy and focus, while higher doses can create intensity that borders on anxiety for sensitive users. Start low—1-2 hits for effect assessment. The fast onset means you'll know within 10-15 minutes if you need more. It's better to add another small dose after 20 minutes than to overconsume initially and spend 2-3 hours uncomfortable.

🌱 Growing Moby Dick Auto Feminised Seeds — Complete Guide

Experience level required: Intermediate. Moby Dick Auto is more challenging than typical compact autos but easier than photoperiod sativas. The taller structure (100-140cm) requires more vertical space than standard autos (60-100cm). The 11-12 week timeline demands more patience than fast autos (9-10 weeks). If you've successfully grown 2-3 autoflowers previously and have reasonable tent height or outdoor space, you'll handle Moby Dick Auto. Complete beginners should start with compact indica-dominant autos like Northern Lights Auto.

Best growing environments: Indoor growing with tents 180cm+ height. Outdoor growing in warm climates with extended growing seasons (Queensland, Northern NSW, WA). The sativa genetics need more vertical space than compact indica autos. Tents under 150cm create height issues. Balcony growing works if containers can accommodate the height and you have 8+ hours direct sunlight.

Timeline: 11-12 weeks from seed to harvest total. Some phenotypes finish at 11 weeks, others push to 12.5 weeks. This is longer than standard autos (9-11 weeks) but much faster than photoperiod Moby Dick (17-22 weeks total). The fixed timeline means planning harvests is predictable: plant on Day 1, harvest around Day 77-84.

Height and structure: Tall for an autoflower. Final height typically 100-140cm depending on phenotype, container size, and growing conditions. Some vigorous phenotypes can reach 150cm in optimal conditions. The sativa structure shows: longer internodal spacing, thinner leaves, more vertical growth than bushy indica autos. Indoor plants in 15L pots typically finish 100-120cm; outdoor plants in 30L+ containers can reach 130-140cm. The stretch in early flower (around week 3-4) is noticeable but not extreme like photoperiod sativas.

Container size: 15-20L minimum for best results. Bigger pots = bigger plants within the genetic limitations. Start seeds directly in final containers—autoflowers hate transplanting and won't recover lost time. Fabric pots work particularly well for autos because they prevent root binding and improve drainage and oxygenation. Smaller containers (10L) work but reduce final size and yield. Containers larger than 25L show diminishing returns with autos.

Light schedule: 18/6 (18 hours on, 6 hours off) or 20/4 throughout the entire grow. More light generally means more yield—sativa genetics respond well to extended light hours. 18/6 works fine and saves electricity. 20/4 can increase yields by 10-15% but costs more to run. Some growers run 24/0 (continuous light) but plants benefit from a dark period for metabolic processes. No need to switch to 12/12 like photoperiods—maintain the same schedule from seed to harvest.

Training strategies:

LST (Low-Stress Training): Recommended. Gently tie down branches starting around week 2-3 to open the canopy and create more even light exposure. Use soft plant ties or garden wire with rubber coating. The taller structure benefits from LST more than compact autos—opening the canopy improves light penetration to lower bud sites. Continue adjusting ties through early flower as the plant stretches.

Do NOT top: While Moby Dick Auto is taller and more vigorous than typical autos, topping still reduces final yield. The fixed timeline means the plant can't fully recover from high-stress techniques. The stress delays growth for 4-7 days, which directly reduces final size. Stick to LST only for height management.

Defoliation: Light to moderate defoliation helpful. The sativa genetics produce less dense foliage than indica autos, but strategic leaf removal still improves light penetration and airflow. Remove only blocking fan leaves that prevent light from reaching bud sites. Don't strip heavily—autos need foliage for energy production. Light tucking is often better than removing leaves.

Feeding strategy:

Moby Dick Auto has moderate to heavy nutrient requirements—more demanding than compact indica autos but less than photoperiod sativas.

Seedling phase (weeks 1-2):

  • Plain water or very light nutrients (1/4 strength maximum)
  • Seedlings have stored energy in cotyledons—heavy feeding stunts growth
  • Focus on establishing healthy root system
  • Overwatering is the primary risk at this stage

Early vegetative (weeks 3-4):

  • Start at 1/4 to 1/2 recommended nutrient strength
  • Gradually increase if plants show vigorous growth
  • EC range: 1.0-1.4 in hydro/coco systems
  • Light to moderate nitrogen for vegetative growth
  • Watch for nutrient burn (brown crispy leaf tips)—back off immediately if it appears
  • CalMag beneficial in coco or RO water systems

Pre-flower transition (weeks 4-5):

  • Plants begin showing pistils—flowering is starting
  • Transition to bloom nutrients—reduce nitrogen, increase phosphorus/potassium
  • EC range: 1.2-1.6
  • The sativa genetics need slightly more nutrients than compact indica autos

Early-mid flower (weeks 6-9):

  • Peak feeding period for bud development
  • EC range: 1.4-1.8 (can push to 2.0 with vigorous phenotypes)
  • Focus on phosphorus and potassium for bud density and resin
  • Bloom boosters work well with Moby Dick Auto's sativa genetics
  • Monitor for deficiencies (yellowing leaves) but don't overfeed to compensate
  • Increase sulfur and magnesium to support terpene production

Late flower (weeks 10-12):

  • Maintain feeding through week 10
  • Begin flush at week 10-11 depending on trichome development
  • Plain pH-adjusted water only for final 7-10 days
  • Removes residual nutrients and improves citrus-haze flavour profile
  • Leaves will yellow naturally—this is desired and normal

Climate requirements:

Temperature:

  • Ideal range: 22-28°C throughout the grow (sativas tolerate heat better than indicas)
  • Can handle brief spikes to 30-32°C without severe stress
  • Avoid prolonged exposure above 30°C (reduces terpenes and can stress plants)
  • Avoid temps below 18°C (slows growth significantly)
  • Cooler temps in final weeks (20-24°C) can enhance terpene preservation

Humidity:

  • Seedling/early veg: 60-70% RH (higher humidity helps seedling development)
  • Vegetative growth: 50-60% RH
  • Early flower: 45-55% RH
  • Mid-late flower: 40-50% RH
  • Final 2 weeks: 35-45% RH if possible to prevent mould
  • Sativa structure has better airflow than dense indica, but still maintain reasonable humidity

Airflow:

  • Moderate to strong air circulation essential—use oscillating fans
  • The taller structure creates different microclimates top to bottom—ensure air movement throughout plant
  • Good airflow prevents mould, strengthens stems, and improves gas exchange
  • Increase airflow in flowering as buds develop density

Light intensity:

  • Moderate to high light requirements—sativa genetics respond well to intensity
  • PPFD targets: 400-500 µmol/m²/s early growth, 600-900 µmol/m²/s flowering
  • Can handle up to 1000 PPFD but doesn't require it
  • Quality LED panels (300-600W for 1m²) or HPS (400-600W) work excellently
  • More light = more yield with Moby Dick Auto (assuming environment supports it)

Common issues and solutions:

Height challenges: Taller than typical autos. Ensure tent has 180cm+ height. Use LST to manage vertical growth. If plants exceed space, gently bend tallest branches to create more horizontal structure (pseudo-supercropping without the crush).

Longer timeline impatience: 11-12 weeks feels long compared to 9-10 week autos. Resist the urge to harvest early—the last week is when trichome density explodes and yields increase substantially. Premature harvest significantly reduces both quantity and quality.

Nutrient sensitivity: More tolerant than compact autos but still sensitive compared to photoperiods. Start conservative (1/4-1/2 strength) and increase gradually based on plant response. Watch for tip burn and adjust accordingly.

Overwatering: The taller structure and longer timeline don't change watering needs dramatically. Wait until pots feel light before watering again. Overwatering causes droopy leaves, slow growth, and potential root issues.

Light stress from 24/0: Running continuous light can stress some phenotypes. If you notice signs of stress (leaf tacoing, light bleaching at tops), reduce to 20/4 or 18/6 schedule.

🏠 Indoor Growing (Australia)

Timeline: 11-12 weeks from seed to harvest total

Yield: 500-600g/m² under good LED lighting (18/6 or 20/4 schedule) with 4-6 plants

Light schedule: 18/6 or 20/4 from seed to harvest—no changes needed

Container recommendations: 15-20L fabric pots. Can use 12-15L for space constraints but expect slightly smaller plants. 20L+ optimal for maximum yields.

Plants per area: 4-6 plants per square meter comfortably. The taller structure means fewer plants than compact autos (which can fit 9-12 per m²). With LST, 4 plants per m² is ideal.

Cycles per year: 4 complete grows annually. Week 1-12 (harvest), week 13-24 (harvest), week 25-36 (harvest), week 37-48 (harvest). Slightly fewer cycles than 10-week autos (which allow 5 per year) but yields per cycle are higher.

Height management: Requires tents minimum 180cm tall. Standard 200cm tents work well. Short tents (150-160cm) are not suitable—plants will grow into lights. Account for pot height (30cm), light distance (30-40cm), and plant height (100-120cm).

Lighting options: Quality LED panels (400-600W) or HPS (400-600W) for 1m². The sativa genetics respond well to higher light intensity. Budget LEDs work but limit yield potential. Quantum boards or COB LEDs produce excellent results.

Popular with Australian indoor growers in: Melbourne (climate control allows year-round), Sydney (taller apartments accommodate height), Brisbane (humidity manageable with dehumidifier), Perth (dry climate suits sativa genetics), Adelaide (year-round indoor production). Less common in very small urban setups due to height requirements.

🌿 Outdoor Growing (Australia)

Timeline: 11-12 weeks from seed to harvest regardless of season

Yield: 100-200g per plant depending on container size and sunlight hours

Growing seasons by region:

  • Queensland / Northern NSW: Nearly year-round growing possible. Can run 3-4 cycles annually. Avoid extreme summer heat (December-January). Best plantings: March-May, September-November.
  • Central NSW / ACT: Spring through autumn plantings (September-April). Can squeeze 2-3 cycles: Spring (Sept plant, Dec harvest), Summer (Jan plant, Apr harvest), Autumn (Mar plant, June harvest before cold).
  • Victoria / SA: Spring and summer plantings (October-February). Autumn possible (March-May) if harvest finishes before cold weather. 2 cycles feasible.
  • Tasmania: Summer plantings only (November-January). The 11-12 week timeline works but limits to 1-2 cycles maximum due to short growing season.
  • Western Australia: Year-round growing viable in Perth area. Mediterranean climate ideal. Can run 3-4 cycles like Queensland.

Container vs in-ground:

  • Containers (30-50L): Recommended for autos. Portable, controlled soil quality, easier to optimize sunlight exposure. Yields 120-200g per plant. Can move to protect from weather or optimize sun angle.
  • Large containers (50L+): Maximum auto production. Yields approach 200g with excellent care. Still portable with effort.
  • In-ground: Possible but less common for autos. The fixed timeline means you can't take advantage of unlimited root space like photoperiods. Container growing is more practical and allows mobility.

Sunlight requirements: 8-10+ hours direct sunlight daily for good yields. The sativa genetics respond well to intense sun. More light = more yield with Moby Dick Auto. South-facing positions in Australia get best exposure. Can tolerate partial shade better than indica autos but still needs substantial direct light.

Weather management:

  • Heat: Tolerates Australian summer heat well (sativa genetics evolved in tropical climates). Can handle temps to 35°C if watered properly. Provide afternoon shade if temps consistently exceed 38°C.
  • Rain: The sativa structure has better airflow than dense indica buds, reducing mould risk. Still cover plants or move under shelter if heavy prolonged rain threatens in late flower.
  • Wind: The taller structure is more vulnerable to wind than compact autos. Stake main stem by mid-flower. Use bamboo stakes or flexible supports. The thinner sativa branches can snap in severe wind.
  • Cold: Autos tolerate brief cold better than photoperiods. Can handle overnight temps down to 10-12°C without severe damage. Prolonged cold below 15°C slows growth and reduces yields.

Planting timing examples:

  • Spring cycle (Queensland): Plant early September, harvest late November
  • Summer cycle (Victoria): Plant mid-November, harvest late January/early February
  • Autumn cycle (NSW): Plant mid-March, harvest late May/early June (before cold)
  • Year-round (Perth): Plant any month except June-August (coolest/darkest period)

Outdoor training: Light LST to open canopy and create bushier structure. Tie down main stem and taller branches to improve light exposure and reduce wind vulnerability. Minimal training needed due to auto nature—focus on supporting rather than manipulating growth.

Pest management: Caterpillars and aphids most common in Australian outdoor grows. The more open sativa structure makes pests easier to spot than dense indica. Inspect weekly. BT (Bacillus thuringiensis) spray for caterpillar prevention. Neem oil for aphids (stop 2 weeks before harvest). Remove any pest-damaged material immediately to prevent spread.

🧠 Jason's Tip — Growing Moby Dick Auto

Moby Dick Auto is the tallest auto I regularly grow. If you're used to compact 70cm autos, the 120cm+ height will surprise you. Make absolutely sure your tent is 180cm minimum. I've seen growers try to fit this in 150cm tents and end up with plants growing into lights by week 8—it's not fun.

Use bigger pots than you think you need. I run Moby Dick Auto in 20L fabric pots and the difference from 15L is noticeable—probably 20-30% more yield. The longer timeline and sativa genetics benefit from extra root space. It's worth the slightly larger footprint.

Don't underfeed it. A lot of growers baby autos with light feeding and wonder why yields are mediocre. Moby Dick Auto can handle moderate to heavy feeding—I push to 1.8 EC in coco during mid-flower without burn. If leaves are light green in week 7-8, bump up base nutrients.

The last week matters massively. I used to harvest Moby Dick Auto at day 77 and get 450-500g/m². Now I wait until day 84-85 when trichomes are properly cloudy and I consistently pull 550-600g/m². That extra week adds 15-20% to final weight and noticeably improves the citrus-haze flavour. Be patient.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions — Moby Dick Auto Feminised Seeds

🐋 What makes Moby Dick Auto special?
Moby Dick Auto combines exceptional autoflower yields (up to 600g/m² indoors, 100-200g outdoor) with moderate THCV content (0.2-0.6%) that creates unique energizing effects: appetite suppression instead of munchies, increased mental clarity and focus, faster onset, and enhanced productivity. Most autos contain negligible THCV (<0.1%), making Moby Dick Auto's levels genuinely distinctive. The Haze × White Widow genetics also produce classic sativa effects in an autoflowering format.

⚡ How does THCV affect the experience?
THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin) creates several distinct effects: Appetite suppression (opposite of typical cannabis "munchies"), increased energy and mental clarity (sharper, more focused than THC alone), faster onset (effects arrive in 5-15 minutes vs 15-30 for pure THC), shorter duration (2-3 hours vs 3-4 hours), enhanced focus and productivity (less mental scatter), and potential blood sugar regulation benefits. The combination creates what users describe as a "cleaner," more functional high ideal for daytime use.

🌱 Is it difficult to grow?
Intermediate difficulty. More challenging than compact indica autos (Northern Lights Auto, Gorilla Glue Auto) but easier than photoperiod sativas. The challenges: Taller structure (100-140cm requires 180cm+ tent height), longer timeline (11-12 weeks vs 9-10 for standard autos), moderate feeding requirements (more demanding than compact autos). If you've successfully grown 2-3 autos and have adequate height, you'll handle it. Beginners should start with compact autos.

⏱ How long from seed to harvest?
11-12 weeks total for most grows. Some phenotypes finish at 11 weeks, others push to 12.5 weeks. This is longer than standard autos (9-11 weeks) but much faster than photoperiod Moby Dick (17-22 weeks total). The timeline is fixed—you can't extend it like photoperiods. Plant on Day 1, harvest around Day 77-84.

🏠 Can I grow Moby Dick Auto in a standard tent?
Depends on tent height. Standard 200cm tents: Yes, works well. Leaves adequate room for pots (30cm), lights (30-40cm), and plants (100-120cm). Tall tents (220-240cm): Ideal, plenty of room. Short tents (150-180cm): Challenging—plants may grow into lights. Not recommended for tents under 180cm. The sativa genetics create more vertical growth than typical compact autos.

🌞 What about outdoor growing in Australia?
Excellent in warm states. Queensland and Northern NSW can run 3-4 cycles annually year-round. Central NSW, Perth, and warm coastal areas can run 2-3 cycles spring through autumn. Victoria and SA can manage 2 cycles (spring and summer plantings). Tasmania is challenging—1-2 cycles maximum due to short season. The 11-12 week timeline is fast enough for multiple annual cycles in warm climates.

📏 How tall does it actually get?
Typically 100-140cm depending on phenotype and conditions. Indoor in 15L pots: 100-120cm average. Outdoor in 30L+ pots: 120-140cm, occasionally 150cm with vigorous phenotypes. Much taller than compact indica autos (60-100cm) but shorter than photoperiod sativas (200-300cm). The sativa structure shows through vertical growth and longer internodal spacing.

🌾 What yields can I realistically expect?
Indoor: 500-600g/m² under good LED lighting (18/6 or 20/4) with 4-6 plants. Individual plant yields: 100-150g each depending on pot size and care.
Outdoor: 100-200g per plant. Small containers (15-20L) with average sunlight produce 100-130g. Larger containers (30-50L) with 8-10+ hours direct sun produce 150-200g.
These are exceptional yields for autoflowers—significantly higher than standard autos (50-120g per plant outdoor).

🍊 What does it taste and smell like?
Bright citrus (lemon, orange) and sharp pine dominate the inhale, with classic haze earthiness. The exhale carries sweet vanilla and subtle herbal notes. The aroma during growing is moderate to strong—citrus-pine-haze smell from week 6 onwards. Less pungent than diesel/skunk strains but still noticeable. Indoor carbon filtration recommended. The terpinolene-dominant profile creates the distinctive haze character that connoisseurs recognize immediately.

💪 How potent is it compared to photoperiod Moby Dick?
Very close. Auto version: 20-25% THC. Photoperiod: 21-27% THC. That's a 2-5% difference—many users can't distinguish in subjective experience. The THCV content is similar between both versions (0.2-0.6%). The energizing, functional effects are equally present. Medical users report comparable symptom relief between auto and photoperiod versions.

🌡️ What are ideal growing conditions?
Temperature: 22-28°C throughout grow (tolerates heat well)
Humidity: 60-70% seedling, 50-60% veg, 45-55% early flower, 40-50% mid-late flower, 35-45% final 2 weeks
Light schedule: 18/6 or 20/4 from seed to harvest (no changes needed)
pH: 6.0-6.5 in soil, 5.5-6.0 in coco/hydro
EC/PPM: Moderate to heavy feeder—1.0-1.8 EC (500-900 PPM) through flower
Light intensity: 600-900 PPFD in flower for optimal yields

🔝 Should I top it?
No. Do not top autoflowers including Moby Dick Auto. The fixed timeline means the plant can't recover the lost time from high-stress techniques. Topping delays growth for 4-7 days, which directly reduces final size and yield. Use gentle LST (low-stress training) only—tie down branches to open canopy without cutting or damaging the plant.

🌿 What training works best?
Gentle LST (low-stress training) starting around week 2-3. Tie down main stem and taller branches to create more horizontal growth and expose lower bud sites to light. Use soft plant ties or garden wire. The taller sativa structure benefits more from LST than compact indica autos. Beyond basic LST, leave the plant alone. Don't defoliate heavily. Don't supercrop. Minimal intervention produces best results with autos.

💧 How much should I feed it?
Moby Dick Auto is a moderate to heavy feeder (more demanding than compact indica autos). Start at 1/4 recommended strength and increase to 1/2-3/4 strength by mid-flower. EC range: 1.0-1.4 in veg, 1.4-1.8 in flower (can push to 2.0 with vigorous phenotypes). The sativa genetics need more nutrients than typical compact autos. Watch for tip burn and adjust. Flush final 7-10 days for clean citrus-haze flavour.

⚠️ What are common problems?
Height exceeding tent space: Ensure 180cm+ tent height before growing. The sativa structure grows taller than typical autos.
Impatience with timeline: 11-12 weeks feels long compared to 9-10 week autos. Don't harvest early—the last week adds 15-20% to yield.
Underfeeding: Compact indica autos teach growers to feed lightly. Moby Dick Auto needs more nutrients—don't be too conservative.
Overwatering: The longer timeline doesn't change watering frequency dramatically. Wait until pots feel light before watering.
Light stress: 24/0 continuous light can stress some phenotypes. Use 18/6 or 20/4 for best results.

🔄 Can I clone it?
Technically yes, but it's not practical. Auto clones continue on the same age-based flowering timeline as the mother plant, so they flower almost immediately with minimal vegetative growth. The result is tiny plants with negligible yields. With autos, it's more efficient to just plant new seeds for each cycle. Save cloning for photoperiod strains.

🕐 When should I harvest?
Harvest when 70-80% of trichomes are cloudy with 20-30% amber for balanced effects (energy + gentle relaxation). Use jeweler's loupe or microscope to check trichomes on buds (not sugar leaves). Harvesting earlier (mostly cloudy, minimal amber) provides more energetic sativa effects. Harvesting later (50%+ amber) increases physical relaxation but reduces the characteristic clarity. Don't harvest before day 77 minimum—premature harvest significantly reduces yield and potency.

💰 Is it worth growing vs photoperiod Moby Dick?
Depends on priorities:
Choose Auto if: You want no light schedule management, multiple annual outdoor cycles (3-4 in warm climates), faster total timeline (11-12 weeks vs 17-22 weeks), simpler growing, or limited height (100-140cm vs 200-300cm).
Choose Photoperiod if: You want maximum yields (700g/m² vs 600g/m²), can manage 12/12 light schedules, have unlimited height, value slightly higher THC (21-27% vs 20-25%), want control over veg time.
For growers prioritizing simplicity and speed, the auto is excellent. For growers prioritizing maximum production, the photoperiod wins.

🌿 What effects can I expect?
Fast onset (5-15 minutes) with immediate cerebral stimulation, mood elevation, and energy increase. Peak mental clarity and focus (15-45 minutes)—excellent for creativity, productivity, conversation, outdoor activities. Mid-phase steady energy with gentle physical relaxation developing (45-90 minutes). Late-phase tapering with calm comfort (90-150 minutes). Duration: 2-3 hours total. Best for daytime use, creative work, social situations, physical activities. Not suitable for sleep or heavy sedation.

💊 What medical conditions is it used for?
Anecdotally reported as effective for: ADHD and focus disorders (THCV enhances concentration), depression and fatigue (energizing mood elevation), appetite regulation and weight management (THCV suppresses appetite), blood sugar management (THCV may help regulate glucose), mild pain without sedation (functional pain relief), social anxiety (reduces inhibition without paranoia), creative blocks (enhances ideation). The functional, energizing effects make it valuable for medical users needing symptom relief during active hours.

📅 How many harvests per year?
Indoor: 4 complete cycles annually with 11-12 week timeline
Outdoor (warm climates like QLD/WA): 3-4 cycles per year
Outdoor (temperate climates like VIC/NSW): 2-3 cycles spring through autumn
This is significantly more than photoperiods (1 outdoor cycle, 3 indoor cycles per year) and slightly fewer than fast autos (5 indoor cycles per year).

🏆 Why is it called Moby Dick?
Named after the legendary white whale from Herman Melville's classic novel. The name references both the strain's legendary status and monstrous yields—like the whale, Moby Dick cannabis is known for being powerful, productive, and worthy of pursuit. The white/silver trichome coating also evokes the "white whale" imagery. The auto version maintains this legendary character in a faster, more accessible format.

🧬 What makes the genetics special?
The combination of elite parent genetics: Haze (classic sativa providing cerebral effects, extended duration, energizing character) and White Widow (legendary hybrid contributing heavy resin, structural stability, increased yields). This pairing creates more productive and faster-flowering sativa effects than pure Haze while maintaining the energizing character. The THCV content is rare in autos and valuable for functional daytime use.

🌍 Where did it originate?
The photoperiod Moby Dick was bred by Dinafem Seeds in Spain (founded 2005, ceased operations 2020). Moby Dick became one of their most celebrated releases. The autoflowering version was created by crossing stable Moby Dick photoperiod genetics with ruderalis to create auto-flowering trait while maintaining the energizing effects and THCV content. Multiple seed banks now carry Moby Dick Auto genetics from preserved stock.

🔬 What's the terpene profile?
Dominated by terpinolene (floral, herbal—creates distinctive haze character), supported by myrcene (earthy depth), ocimene (sweet floral, citrus notes), and pinene (fresh pine, mental clarity). Minor terpenes include caryophyllene (peppery) and limonene (citrus, mood-elevating). Total terpene content typically 1.2-2.0%. The terpinolene dominance is relatively rare and creates the classic haze flavour profile.

💚 Is it good for hash or concentrates?
Good. The White Widow genetics contribute decent resin production for an auto. Concentrate yields are average to above-average (14-20% by weight typically). The complex terpene profile produces flavourful extracts with citrus-haze notes. The THCV content carries through to concentrates, maintaining the unique energizing effects. Not the absolute best for extraction (photoperiods produce more), but solid for an auto.

☀️ Does it handle heat well?
Yes, very well. Sativa genetics evolved in tropical climates and tolerate heat better than indica strains. Moby Dick Auto can handle temps to 32°C without severe stress (brief exposure). Still maintain reasonable temps (22-28°C ideal) but it won't collapse during heat spikes. This heat tolerance makes it excellent for Australian summer growing where temps can spike to 35°C+.

🌊 Can I grow it hydroponically?
Yes, works well in hydro systems. DWC (deep water culture), coco/perlite, and other hydro methods work excellently. The moderate to heavy feeding requirements suit hydroponic nutrient delivery. Expect faster growth and potentially higher yields than soil. Just ensure your vertical space can handle the height—hydro often produces taller plants than soil.

🎨 Is it really good for creativity?
Yes, consistently reported as excellent for creative work. The cerebral stimulation enhances ideation, problem-solving, and novel connections between concepts. Many artists, writers, musicians, and creative professionals report Moby Dick Auto as their preferred "work strain." The THCV contributes mental clarity that keeps creative energy focused rather than scattered. Peak creativity window is typically 15-60 minutes after consumption.

🍽️ Does it really suppress appetite?
Yes, the THCV content creates noticeable appetite suppression—opposite of typical cannabis "munchies." Many users report decreased food cravings and easier portion control. This makes Moby Dick Auto valuable for users managing weight or those who dislike excessive hunger some strains produce. The appetite suppression is most noticeable in the first 90 minutes after consumption. Later phases (90+ minutes) may see slight appetite increase but far less than pure THC strains.

⚡ How does it compare to other energizing autos?
Moby Dick Auto is among the most energizing autos available. Most autoflowers lean indica-dominant and create relaxing effects. Moby Dick Auto's sativa-dominant genetics and THCV content make it distinctly energizing and functional. Comparable strains: Tangie Auto, Jack Herer Auto, Amnesia Haze Auto. Moby Dick Auto stands out for THCV content and exceptional yields.

🛡️ Is it mould resistant?
Moderately resistant. The sativa structure has better airflow than dense indica buds, which helps prevent mould. The 11-12 week timeline means longer exposure to potential mould conditions than fast autos. Maintain proper humidity control (under 45% in late flower) and good airflow. More resistant than super-dense modern hybrids but not immune to mould if conditions are poor.

🌱 Can I grow it on a balcony?
Yes, excellent choice for balcony growing if you have: 8-10+ hours direct sunlight (critical for sativa genetics and good yields), 30L+ containers (the taller structure needs root space), ability to stake plants (100-140cm height needs support), privacy considerations (plants are tall and visible). South-facing balconies in Australia get best sun exposure. Use fabric pots for portability and drainage. Expect 120-180g per plant with good sun and care.

⚙️ What's the best light schedule?
18/6 (18 hours on, 6 hours off) is optimal for most growers—balances yield, electricity cost, and plant health. 20/4 can increase yields by 10-15% but costs more to run and may stress some phenotypes. 24/0 (continuous light) is not recommended—plants benefit from a dark period for metabolic processes. The sativa genetics respond well to extended light hours but don't require 24/0. Stick with 18/6 or 20/4 for best results.
