About Sacred Seeds Australia

Sacred Seeds started in 2022, but our interest in cannabis genetics goes back a lot further. We’re Jess and Jason, an Australian family business with a fairly simple approach: stock genetics we genuinely rate, give people honest information about them, and look after our customers properly.

More than 2,500 verified reviews later, we’re still a small operation. We choose the strains ourselves, know what we sell, and care about what goes into every order.

How We Got Here

Long before Sacred Seeds existed, we spent years travelling through places where cannabis had been cultivated for generations. We were curious about the plants, but increasingly we became interested in the genetics behind them: where particular varieties came from, why they developed the traits they did, and how growers had kept those lines going.

A lot of what we saw during those years eventually shaped Sacred Seeds.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam was probably where the obsession with genetics really started. The coffeeshops were one thing, but we became much more interested in what was happening behind them. We went on seed-business tours, spent time around Dutch Passion and Sensi Seeds, and met people who had been breeding and preserving cannabis genetics for decades.

It was our first proper look at cannabis breeding as a craft rather than simply a product.

The Hindu Kush

Jason was heavily into traditional hash at the time, which eventually took us towards the Hindu Kush and through parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan. There we encountered local cannabis populations that had adapted to altitude, climate and farming practices over generations.

Seeing those plants where they had developed gave us a completely different appreciation for landrace genetics. They weren’t strains invented for a catalogue. They were local plants with histories tied to the places and people growing them.

Nepal & Northern India

We found the same connection between place and genetics in Nepal and Himachal Pradesh, where we spent time learning about traditional charas production. Plants growing at different elevations could express themselves very differently, even within relatively small geographic areas.

It was also a reminder of how much cannabis knowledge exists outside modern breeding companies. Some of the most interesting things we learned came from simply talking to growers.

Southeast Asia

Thailand, Laos and Cambodia showed us another side of cannabis entirely. The local varieties were often tall, narrow-leaf plants adapted to tropical conditions and quite unlike the compact hybrids dominating Western seed catalogues.

By then we’d started looking at cannabis differently. A seed wasn’t interesting just because a strain had a famous name or an impressive number attached to it. We wanted to know where the genetics came from and what made them worth preserving.

Further Afield

Our travels also took us through Jamaica, Morocco, Colombia, California, Mexico and Canada. The cannabis culture was different everywhere, but the thing that kept grabbing us was the relationship between genetics and place.

Those experiences are a big reason Sacred Seeds still has a soft spot for heritage strains, landraces and old-school genetics alongside newer breeding work.

Coming Home and Starting Sacred Seeds

Eventually we came back to Australia, including after six months picking cannabis in California. By then seeds had become a genuine obsession.

The name Sacred Seeds came from something we’d seen repeatedly while travelling: a good seed can carry a remarkable amount of history. Genetics survive because people keep growing them, selecting them and passing them on.

When we started Sacred Seeds Australia in 2022, we wanted to build the sort of seed bank we would actually want to buy from. That meant good genetics, useful information, straightforward service and real people behind the business.

That hasn’t really changed. We’re bigger than we were in 2022, but Jess and Jason are still here, we’re still choosing what makes the catalogue ourselves, and we’re still probably a little too excited when we get our hands on a classic genetic we’ve been chasing for years.

👫 Meet Jess & Jason (we look a bit like this on our good days)

If you’ve ordered from Sacred Seeds or sent us a message, there’s a good chance you’ve already spoken to Jess. She handles most customer questions, helps people navigate the catalogue, and keeps a slightly unreasonable number of things moving behind the scenes.

Jess was also the more social half of our travels. While Jason could happily spend hours looking at plants, Jess was usually talking to people. A lot of the growers and families we met opened up because she was genuinely interested in their lives, not just their cannabis. Those conversations taught us as much as anything else we did.

Jason is more likely to be found behind the scenes, checking new genetics, testing seed batches or disappearing down a research rabbit hole. He looks after germination testing, storage and quality control, and has been keeping notes on plants and genetics since well before Sacred Seeds existed.

We’re quite different people, which is probably why the business works. Jess keeps the human side human. Jason obsesses over the seeds. Somewhere in the middle is Sacred Seeds.

🔬 How We Choose and Look After Our Seeds

We source genetics from established breeders and suppliers in places including California, Oregon and Amsterdam. Some are famous names, others aren’t. What matters to us is the genetics themselves and whether we’d be happy putting them in the Sacred Seeds catalogue.

We don’t add every new strain that appears. There are already thousands of them. We’d rather have a catalogue we’ve chosen deliberately, including the old genetics we love alongside newer cultivars we think genuinely deserve a place.

Once seeds arrive in Australia, they’re kept under controlled storage conditions and tested by batch. Jason runs germination tests before new stock is released and continues checking batches over time. If a batch isn’t performing where it should, we’d rather pull it than keep selling it.

That’s also why we offer our germination guarantee. Seeds are living things and no seed bank can truthfully promise that every individual seed will germinate, but we can test our stock properly and look after customers when something isn’t right.

Free — Stamped Letter, Untracked — moves through the same Australia Post network but without a tracking number. A good option if you’re not in a hurry.

In most cases we dispatch on the same or next business day. We offer a delivery guarantee — as long as you’ve provided the correct address, we’ll resend your order if it doesn’t arrive.

Bank transfer, crypto-currency, or we can send you a link to pay on card once you complete your order.

Upon checkout, you’ll receive all the details you need.

If making an online bank transfer you must include the order number in the reference field when making the transfer.

Once the funds have cleared we’ll package your order and send you a tracking number via email.

Typically, you’ll receive the Aussie post tracking details within 1 business day of the funds clearing.

What are the legalities?

On their own, cannabis seeds do not possess any illegal attributes. Seeds contain no THC or CBD.

They are adult novelty collectable items that have various uses, such as producing body care products, natural remedies, seed preservation, souvenirs, and oil.
